Most knowledge about contemporary place-making is derived from the temperate climate experience of Europe and North America. Some knowledge of appropriate low climatic design for the tropics is also documented. This conference focuses on the subtropics, places highly diverse in landscape and climate terms, with people and places vastly different in cultural and lifestyle terms, and set for major changes in coming decades as the world grapples with the effects of global warming.
