Biography -

Dr Brown is a founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN), one of the largest and most active integrated telemedicine networks in the world.

Dr Brown has won numerous awards for his work in Telemedicine, including most recently, a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Award for his contributions to health care in Canada. In 2010, he was chosen as one of 25 Living Transformational Canadians by a national media panel sponsored by the Globe and Mail, CTV and Le Presse. He currently sits on the boards of several health care organisations and is the President of the American Telemedicine Association.

An emergency physician who studied mathematics and engineering before embarking on his medical career, Dr Brown is a passionate advocate for telemedicine as a tool to improve access to care, quality of care and the sustainability of health care systems.

Dr Shuji Shimizu, Japan

Biography -

Dr Shuji Shimizu, M.D. Ph.D. is a surgeon, having graduated from Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan. He is an Associate Professor of the Department of Endoscopic Diagnostics and Therapeutics, and majors in endoscopic surgery. Dr Shimizu is the Director of the Telemedicine Development Centre of Asia - at Kyushu University Hospital as well, where for more than a decade he has facilitated a comprehensive telemedicine project between Korea and Japan. This project has widely spread in various Asia-Pacific regions and is expanding globally.  Dr Shimizu currently chairs the medical working group of the Asia-Pacific Advanced Network (APAN), and is a Training Centre Committee member of the World Gastroenterology Organisation, serving as a driving force for telemedicine to connect worldwide centres for continuous medical education.

Professor Branko Celler, Australia

Biography -

Prof. Celler is Principal Scientist at the CSIRO Centre for Computational Informatics in Australia and has an international reputation as a leader and innovator in the area of physiological modelling and biological signal processing and over the last 20 years has undertaken pioneering work in the application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in health. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) and an Emeritus Professor at the University of NSW. He is recognised internationally for his research on telehealth for the management of chronic disease in the home, the community, residential care and rural and remote areas and founded a company that is now operating internationally and is recognised for its innovation and excellence in telehealth.

He has received more than $15m in competitive research funding from sources as varied as the ARC, NH&MRC and DOHA and has published more than 220 refereed conference proceedings, Journal papers and book chapters. As an acknowledged thought leader in telehealth he has been invited to speak at more than fifty national and international conferences and symposia over the last ten years alone. Most recently he and his team at CSIRO were awarded $3.02m from the DOHA NBN Enabled Telehealth Pilots Program to deploy and test home Telehealth technologies at six different locations in five states totalling 150 Test patients and 300 Control patients. CSIRO will also develop new clinical tools for automated patient risk stratification and decision support. This is the largest type of project ever undertaken in Australia and will provide a wealth of health care outcomes data as well as health economic and organisational data to help inform government policy.
