This year has experienced the most challenging economic conditions ever providing many new personal and corporate challenges for professionals in the Corporate Real Estate Industry. As a response to CoreNet’s objective of providing education and thought leadership to assist professionals in their workplaces the CoreNet Global Sydney Chapter Committee has decided to hold a forum to assist members dealing with these uncertain times and challenges whilst being aware that “business as usual” issue still require attention. This will be first ever Sydney Symposium. The Committee has been mindful of the many competing demands for time, making this a half day event. This will be a very busy and informative half day as you will notice from the packed programme. In keeping with the theme for the Symposium this is designed to be the most informative, effective and efficient half day event possible. We have set the attendance cost to reflect exceptional good value of money. We have drawn together a fantastic group of top quality international and local speakers. The opening address by Despina Katsikakis Chairman DEGW will focus on lessons for Australia from recent experiences from the UK and USA where the economic environment has been considerable more challenging than in Australia. We will then present the fascinating case study from the CBA on their strategies and workplace changes followed by a tour of their Olympic Park Campus. After afternoon tea Greg Smith and Nigel Steffensen from Grant Samuel will provide insight in the future of supply availability and consequences for future leasing opportunities. This will be followed by Group workshops providing the opportunity for members to share their experiences, concerns and solutions. The most important issues raised in these workshops will set the agenda for the CoreNet events for the year ahead. This first Sydney Symposium seeks to provide an insight into how organisations have successfully adapted and I am excited about the event and hope to see you and your colleagues for a great day at Olympic Park on 30 October.
