Chris Alcock is Principal of Workspace Logic and a leading workplace strategy consultant in Australia and New Zealand. An architect by training, Chris has extensive experience in workplace innovation advising organisations such as Air New Zealand, Cisco Systems, Freehills, Microsoft, National Australia Bank, Stockland and Suncorp. He has recently completed workplace innovation projects for the ABC, ACT Government and the Department of Finance and Deregulation in Canberra whilst a Director of DEGW Asia Pacific.

Chris will be addressing workplace change in the broadcasting industry in lieu of Elisabeth Gleed, Workplace Change Manager of the BBC who is unable to attend due to the recent European aviation disruption caused by the Iceland Volcano.

Rod Baxter has over twenty years experience in the property and support areas of large, public sector organisations. He has been involved with the full range of functions associated with the property lifecycle across diverse portfolios in Main Roads, Transport and Rail. Most recently, following a successful role with ENERGEX overseeing and developing long-term real estate strategies for a large portfolio of industrial, commercial and office accommodation, Rod has been with Tarong Energy establishing a real estate group to manage, among other things, an extensive rural property portfolio.

Alan Brown is the Business Liaison Officer for Ipswich City Council, working with Council for 2 years, in the Office of Economic Development.  Alan has worked to identify infrastructure strategies to cope with large numbers of businesses attracted to this high growth area.  Alan’s experience lies in international business contract negotiation and partner relationship building,  liaising with organisations such as Pepsico International and Goodman Fielders senior management. 

Alan’s experience as a Contract Manager with international organisations included travelling the world negotiating large value contracts with top 100 companies.  This experience has given Alan a unique and sort after skill base.

Martin is the property lead for Rio Tinto in the Asia-Pacific region responsibility for all property transactions and major projects.

One of Martin’s current key projects is Rio Tinto’s Brisbane Regional Centre development, which will consolidate all Brisbane-based employees into a single shared building for the first time. The new workplace, currently under construction, has been designed to the highest environmental standards and will feature the latest technology and facilities.

Martin was previously based in London where, as a Director of Newpoint Consulting, he advised Barclays Bank on numerous property activities including the creation of a global property model for the Retail and Commercial Banking property team.

He has a key interest in the ‘workplace of the future’ concept and aligning this to strategic intent, as well as effect of transitioning to these new environments from an employee perspective.

Edward Chung is the Operating Officer, Corporate Services, for ASX listed software provider, TechnologyOne.

Formerly Chief Financial Officer for Queensland Rail, Edward has extensive experience leading large teams of professionals in the delivery of corporate support functions required to drive the success of a large organisation.

As Operating Officer, Corporate Services at TechnologyOne, Edward is responsible for delivering shared corporate functions, including the finance, internal systems, legal, human resources and administration functions, to all the TechnologyOne business. He is charged with developing commercial frameworks for the delivery of the most efficient, automated, low cost and complimentary processes to drive the company’s expansion. Also under Edward’s portfolio is the company’s imminent move to a new headquarters in Fortitude Valley in May.

Gary is a Director with Incoll Management, a specialist Project Management and Property Advisory company with offices located in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Perth.

Gary has more than 18 years experience in the construction and property industry and leads Incoll’s fitout Project Management and Property Advisory team in Brisbane.  A former Quantity Surveyor and now one of Queensland’s leading project managers, Gary is actively involved in the property industry and sits on the Qld Property Council of Australia (PCA) Commercial and Corporate Real Estate Committee.

Over the last few years Gary has successfully lead project teams in the delivery of a wide variety of diverse and challenging fitout and refurbishment projects in Brisbane.  Some of these include:

Philip Harper has joined the Brisbane studio as Joint Interiors Studio Leader. Prior to joining HASSELL, Philip has been a partner at Woods Bagot and Design Manager at Cottee Parker Architects. His speciality is corporate interiors and has previously completed work for major private and government organisations such as BHP Billiton, Macquarie Bank, Air New Zealand, Telstra, Brisbane City Council and recently Virgin Blue Airlines. Philip is a graduate in Industrial design from RMIT and maintains a keen focus on unique workplace design outcomes in all projects.

With over 25 years of experience in the property industry John has held diverse roles such as client side Project Manager, Facilities/Portfolio Manager and Construction Manager in both the public and private sector. John is currently the General Manager of ISIS in Queensland and leads a team of property professionals in delivering fitout and refurbishments across all industry sectors.

Kelli Jansz has more than 20 years’ experience within the property industry, both as Landlord and Occupier.  Prior to joining Jones Lang LaSalle, Kelli worked with companies such as Coles Myer, Colonial and Gandel in various management positions within regional shopping centres.

In 2006, she joined Jones Lang LaSalle as State Manager Qld on the ANZ account, accountable for the comprehensive property, facility and lease managements of the client’s Queensland portfolio. Kelli is currently Account Director for Jones Lang LaSalle, in partnership with Suncorp, overseeing the strategic and front line management of the account.

Jeff is Aurecon’s Principal Engineer and Sustainable Buildings Leader. Jeff has worked as a consulting engineer for over 24 years working in London, Ireland and for the last 13 years in Melbourne. He has been involved in the design of a wide variety of building types including offices, residential, industrial, academic and institutional buildings.

Jeff is a passionate advocate for the design and renovation of Environmentally Sustainable Buildings and has been involved in many of the cutting edge ESD buildings in Melbourne and overseas. He advises clients on the sustainable redevelopment of their Commercial, Public and Educational buildings. Jeff is an Accredited Green Star Professional, a LEED AP and NABERS assessor and has considerable experience with the practical measures that can be undertaken to substantially improve the energy, water, waste and indoor air quality performance of existing buildings.

Recently Jeff has been involved in the planning and design of a number of urban regeneration sustainable precinct projects which he sees as being the way forward for sustainable development.

He has also been involved in the sustainable refurbishment of several commercial buildings which have seen substantial improvements in their environmental performance. Jeff sees the sustainable refurbishment of the existing building stock as the great but achievable challenge for the property industry in Australia and overseas.

Throughout her professional career, Jane has helped major corporations and government bodies develop innovative space strategies to implement new, flexible ways of working. Her ability to effectively establish client requirements and operating environments have been key factors to her continued success.

Her exposure to global leaders in IT, Banking and Media has also equipped Jane with specialist knowledge in the delivery solutions for technologically advanced installations. Over 30 years experience in property and contract management covering strategic planning, workplace innovation, contract negotiation, project and contract management. Prior to joining Suncorp in 2008 Chris had a long career with Telstra in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne including managing the commercial property portfolio covering some 950,000m2 with an annual operating budget of >$500m. Key projects included negotiating Australia wide energy contract, consolidating 4,500 staff into new Call Centre environments and delivery of 80 new retail outlets. With Suncorp Chris was instrumental in negotiating the agreement with Jones Lang LaSalle and leads a small team in managing the overall contract relationship with Jones Lang LaSalle, projects, risk & compliance and procurement.

Scott is a Toowoomba local, he completed school at Toowoomba State High, before completing a Business Degree at the University of Southern Queensland.

Scott has been working in the field of Economic and Business Development for more than 15 years having worked throughout Queensland. Some of his key achievements include writing the guidelines for incorporating economic development into local government planning, which is available through the Local Government Association; as well as some major investment attraction projects including the CSR Bradford plant at Brendale.

Scott is now the Manager of Economic Development and Tourism at Australia’s third largest Local Government, Moreton Bay Regional Council.

David van den Brule has been General Manager of the Logan Office of Economic Development for 8 years.

David has a wealth of experience in economic development and has travelled extensively throughout the US, western areas of Europe and the Asia Pacific region. He has a diverse business background having worked in Government, private industry and owned his own small business.

The Logan Office of Economic Development is a branch of Logan City Council. In 2008 Council established Invest Logan Pty Ltd, a wholly owned company, to drive economic development in the City.

David's previous roles include:
•    Queensland and Victorian State Governments attracting new business investment and facilitating regional development;
•    Seven years owning and operating a small business in Victoria, Australia in the competitive retail/wholesale food industry;

•    Sales and administration roles in the motor trades, real estate and telecommunications industries.

David holds a Masters degree in Business Management and a Graduate Diploma in Business Management.

Adrian has been involved in the property industry for almost 30 years. He has worked as landlord tenant and consultant over that period with companies including AMP, Commonwealth Bank, Ernst & Young and currently Suncorp.

Over the past 15 years Adrian’s focus has been on the emerging corporate real estate profession and the opportunities this profession has to impact not only the organisation but the lives of the people who inhabit our workplaces. His current role is Executive Manager Workplace Strategy responsible  for Suncorp’s real estate strategy across multiple asset classes and geographies.
